TOURNAMENT PREPARATION
TOURNAMENT PREPARATION
Preparing for Pokémon tournaments can be both exciting and stressful. Whether it's a local League Challenge or an International event, it's important to make sure you're prepared.
Step 1: Register Early
The most important thing for any tournament preparation is actually registering for the event. Tournaments like Internationals and Regionals can sell out fast, so it's imperative to ensure that you are registered by following the Gaming Gen and Play Pokémon social accounts, setting alarms and reminders, and registering the minute events become available.
Step 2: Pick Your Deck
Sites like LimitlessTCG are an incredible resource for looking at decks that have performed at the Regional and International level. Study the meta, identify what's popular, and choose a deck you're comfortable piloting under pressure.
Step 3: Pack Your Gear
🏪 League Challenge / Cup
- Sleeved 60-card deck
- Physical decklist
- Damage counters and dice
- Small notepad and pen (optional)
- Playmat (optional)
🏟️ Regional / International
- Sleeved 60-card deck
- Playmat
- Damage counters and dice
- Spare 100-count sleeves (same brand/color)
- Water bottle
- Cash
- Phone charger
🎯 Pack Light on Event Day
For Regionals and Internationals, pack light. You'll be sitting at a table for 9+ rounds. Everything you bring, you carry. Deck, playmat, counters, dice, spare sleeves, water, cash, charger — that's it. Leave the binder at home.
You're Tournament Ready
You've studied resource management, prize mapping, sequencing, defensive layers, rulings, and tournament logistics. Now it's time to put it all into practice. Register, build your deck, and go compete.
