PARENT RESOURCE CENTER
Strategy, resource management, and metacognition
Your child runs a match on their own now. You are an observer and a sounding board. The Advanced Trainer tier is about deliberate thinking - picking the right moves for the right reasons and explaining those reasons afterward.
What your child learns at this tier
- Algebraic damage calculation with Weakness (x2) and Resistance (-30) modifiers - applied math with immediate feedback.
- Prize mapping and risk assessment across multiple turns - the 2-2-2 vs 1-2-3 prize path tradeoff.
- Sequencing as an applied-probability problem - search before you draw, deck-thin before you commit resources.
- Consistency engines, defensive play, and rulings literacy.
- Match debriefing: "What was the right play? What did I actually do? Why?"
Research emphasis for this tier
The full pedagogy story lives on How This Works. Here is what the Academy leans on for Advanced Trainer.
Stanford DREME
Applied statistics become second nature at this tier. DREME work on math beyond arithmetic tracks exactly the kind of probabilistic reasoning the Advanced Trainer uses every turn.
Harvard Project Zero
Making thinking visible is the goal. Your child narrates their reasoning before they act, a core Project Zero routine.
Reading Rockets (upper-grade application)
Rulings and tournament documents demand precise reading. The same "close reading" habits taught for literary analysis apply to Trainer and Ability text.
